It goes without saying that the best way to travel is to “do as the locals do”; the age-old adage always rings true when abroad. And what better way to do so than to be in an exchange program? You get to live like a native, learn the language and soak it all in as you immerse yourself in a diverse culture. But what if you had a chance to go to a new country and experience the city like a band does, say, playing at Lollapalooza Brasil? Who could ask for anything more when you’re talking about a city chock full of amazing street art, inventive and eclectic fashion, delicious food and a festival headlined by the biggest names in American music, including Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys, Foster the People, MGMT and Cage the Elephant, alongside Brazilian locals like O Rappa and Tipo Uísque?
All these things considered, RAGGED thought it was high time to put together our own musical foreign exchange program, sending our Girl on the Scene Lenay Dunn and Warped Tour headliners We The Kings down to São Paulo to experience the local culture firsthand and to meet Rio de Janeiro locals Tipo Uísque for a musical meeting of minds. Together, they explored everything the colorful country had to offer, from Pacaembu Stadium and spontaneous jamming on the streets to local street art and Brazilian barbeque. In between the adventures, we followed Tipo, Lenay and We the Kings to local hot spots and reeled together a six-episode mini docuseries, along with other pictures and highlights, which you can catch right here on RAGGEDmag.com.
